PERSONALI grew up in Linthicum, Maryland, where I made my first friendships with international students in high school. I took my first course in ESL methods at Towson State near Baltimore, Maryland way back in 1975. After 26 years of living elsewhere, I'm finally home again. I enjoy being near my family. During my peripatetic years, I lived in Washington, DC, Chicago, Cedar Falls, IA, Madrid, Spain, Morgantown, WV, and Pella, IA. I love learning foreign languages and traveling. My favorite countries to visit are Spain and France. I speak both Spanish and French. I have studied Greek, Hebrew, Russian and German as well. Outside of teaching ESOL, I love to knit and to teach knitting to others. I have started a Knitting Club at the elementary school where I teach ESOL. Kids are fun to teach because they love to make things, and aren't afraid to try something new. I also love sacred music, both ancient and contemporary. My "happy hour" each morning is listening to beautiful inspirational music while I knit. I also enjoy cooking. My favorites are vegetarian and international dishes. My reading interests center around knitting, history, the religious life, and intercultural encounters. |
